Watch Out, Here Come The Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians shut out the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon, marking the team's 31st win of the season. This victory also gave the Guardians their first series win over the Astros in five years.
Cleveland had a fabulous showing in the series scoring a total of 19 runs over the three games.
This offensive explosion may seem like an anomaly for a team that had the worst batting, slugging percentage, barrel rate, weighted runs created, and home runs just two and a half weeks ago.
However, think again. The Guardians have found their stride and are coming for the AL Central crown.
Cleveland's turnaround started in their series victory over the Cardinals and Jose Ramirez's walk-off in the finale. They went on to take series from the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Astors, and a series split with the Minnesota Twins.
The Guardians have won 10 of the last 16 games and have cut the lead in the division down to just 1.5 games as of Monday.
The best part about this recent play is that it isn't just one player carrying the offense. But a three-home run night from J-Ram is always welcome. The offense was one of the best in baseball during their latest home stand.
This is where the offense stacked up to the rest of the league in their last six games:
- .317 AVG - 1st
- 70 Hits - 1st
- 38 Runs - 2nd
- .893 OPS - 2nd
Some of the recent standouts include Josh Naylor's .436 batting average of the last 15 days, Will Brennan's 14th-inning walk-off, and Josh Bell's 3-for-4 day.
Cleveland has always been able to pitch, it's their calling card. But now they're a real threat since the offense has arrived.
