Guardians Make Roster Moves, Activate RHP Cody Morris
The Cleveland Guardians made a significant roster move on Saturday afternoon by optioning James Karinchak to Triple-A. However, they aren't done making moves yet.
The organization bolstered the bullpen once more ahead of the series finale with the Houston Astros.
Cody Morris Activated From IL
The new face in the clubhouse is RHP Cody Morris who has yet to make his season debut due to a right teres major strain.
Morris was with the team at the end of last season filling in as a starting pitcher due to injuries to Aaron Civale and Zach Plesac. He then was moved to the bullpen during the playoffs and shined in that role.
He had an ERA of 2.28 over seven appearances in 2022.
Tim Herrin Optioned
Tim Herrin was a part of the moves that took place on Saturday. The team recalled him for a fresh arm after they burned out the bullpen in a 14-inning win on Friday night.
Herrin pitched 3.0 innings on Saturday giving up three runs. However, his ability to hold down the fort gave Cleveland's relievers a much-needed rest.
Richie Palacios DFA'd
Morris came off the 60-day IL, meaning the Guardians had to make a move on the 40-man roster. Richie Palacios was the odd man out and was designated for assignment.
Palacios has yet to make his Big League season debut in 2023 but played in a handful of games in 2022. Palacios hit .232 in the 54 games he played last year.
