The New York Mets are in an interesting spot.

New York struggled in 2023 and won just 74 games, but won 101 games in 2022 and isn't too far away from getting back to that level of play. The Mets seemingly have all of the money in the world and can afford to make a major splash or two this offseason to help push the club over the top.

The Mets likely will be extremely active this offseason. New York even could be in the market to acquire San Diego Padres superstar slugger Juan Soto, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"Keeping (Pete Alonso) is imperative to competing next year, but it wouldn’t hurt to look at Juan Soto, too," Heyman said. "I’m not convinced it’s in the Padres’ DNA to trade a megastar, but maybe the Mets can make a (Mookie Betts)-like trade for him (while of course locking him up). He’d make a nice and long-awaited lineup complement to Alonso, who sometimes seems naked in that order."

Soto reportedly could be traded this offseason and this isn't the first time he has been linked to the Mets. There have been rumblings that Soto may want to return to the East Coast and the Mets have the money and prospect capital needed to get a deal done. Soto would be a perfect addition to the Mets. He has developed into one of the best players in baseball and would form a terrifying duo with Alonso to opposing pitchers. Plus, Soto is coming off of an extremely impressive season with San Diego which saw him club 35 home runs, drive in 109 runs, hit 32 doubles, and collect a league-best 132 walks in 162 games.

New York will be busy this offseason and should at least call San Diego about making a move for Soto.
