Mets to Call-Up Gary Sanchez From Triple-A Syracuse
The Mets have made two significant call-ups this week.
First, it was top prospect Mark Vientos, who homered in Wednesday night's win over the Rays.
Now, it is veteran cast-off Gary Sanchez that will be joining the Mets in Queens on Friday, according to Andy Martino of SNY.
Sanchez signed a minor league deal with the Mets on May 9. This contract had an opt-out clause in it on May 19, which factored into the Mets' decision to call him up.
Sanchez also earned the promotion on a performance level, producing a 1.014 OPS in Triple-A Syracuse in eight games.
The catcher will now look to redeem himself after failing to receive a big-league contract this offseason.
Sanchez was a two-time All-Star and one of the best hitting catchers in the league for the Yankees from 2016-2019.
Prior to the 2022 season, the Yankees traded Sanchez and Gio Urshela to the Minnesota Twins for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt.
