New York Mets Get Promising Update on Quintana
NEW YORK - A huge step in the right direction.
On Friday at Citi Field, New York Mets starting pitcher Jose Quintana stood in front of his locker and announced that he has received the green light to move ahead in his rehab process.
Quintana, who had a CT scan on Thursday, will throw off the mound on Saturday for the first time since undergoing rib surgery in March.
While there is still a long way to go in the steps that proceed: bullpen sessions, live batting practice and rehab starts, Quintana getting back on a mound is extremely promising for the Mets.
Quintana has been sidelined since March when they found a lesion on one of his ribs. Thankfully, the lesion was benign, but Quintana still had a fracture that required surgery that is expected to keep him out until July.
The Mets' rotation has sorely missed Quintana's presence this season, as it has posted a 5.29 ERA (No. 25 in baseball) across 219.2 innings pitched as a group entering play on Friday.
The Mets signed Quintana to a two-year, $26 million deal in the offseason after he put up a 2.93 ERA for the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals in 2022.
