Coming into the new MLB season, the trendy pick among baseball people to have major success was the San Diego Padres. However, thus far, the Padres have been anything but dominant. Their offense has been inconsistent at best and it seems like trying times out in San Diego right now.

With the talent that is on the roster and the money that the team spent over the last few seasons, the lack of success early in the year is extremely disappointing. As the season has goes on and the Padres continue to struggle, the pressure has built. It may be getting to them as superstar talent Fernando Tatis Jr. seemed to downplay the expectations on the team.

“Coming into the season, there has been a lot of expectation, especially with the talent that we have,”

This is the first time since he arrived in San Diego that the Padres were expected to win. It can be different on the other side of things when you are the one being hunted rather than the one doing the hunting.

"People just expect us to do this every single day. It’s like, ‘No, this is baseball.’ But at the end of the day, for sure, we’re gonna have more of those days than the bad days.”

Tatis can downplay the level of expectations all he wants. But the fact remains that this team needs to win. They built the roster to compete for championships and right now, they don't look like they should. Pressure shows who is built for success and who isn't.

The Padres need to pick things up quickly otherwise they may go down as one of the more disappointing teams in MLB history.
