Yankees Staff Leaves Winter Meetings Without Agreement With Padres on Juan Soto Trade
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone have left the Winter Meetings without a finalized deal with the San Diego Padres for Juan Soto. USA Today insider Bob Nightengale reported that the Yankees staffers are en route to the airport, without a deal being agreed upon.
Since late Tuesday night, after the Yankees' trade with the Boston Red Sox for Alex Verdugo, it seemed that a Yankees-Padres swap for Soto was inevitable.
While that could still very well be the case, the two sides weren't able to finalize it before leaving the Winter Meetings, according to Nightengale.
All day on Wednesday, multiple MLB insiders have reported how close the two sides were to consummating a deal.
Before this Nightengale report, the latest report we got was from Andy Martino of SNY, who said the deal was not yet in the final stages, and players had not been informed.
We do know what a potential trade could look like, though, and it still seems like the teams are on track to make a deal happen.
But for now, the Yankees staff is leaving Nashville without a trade, and we will have to continue to wait for a deal to actually be finalized.
