Report: Orioles Pitching Prospect To Debut Against Texas Rangers
The Baltimore Orioles will reportedly call up their top pitching prospect and have him make his Major League debut against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Banner.
The Rangers and Orioles end a three-game series at 1:05 p.m. at Globe Life Field.
Grayson Rodriguez is not only the Orioles' top pitching prospect but the No. 7 prospect in baseball, per MLB.com. The Orioles also have MLB's No. 1 prospect in infielder Gunnar Henderson, who is on Baltimore's roster but didn't start on Tuesday. He was the Orioles' first-round draft pick in 2018.
Baltimore has not made a formal announcement of Wednesday's starter.
On Monday, Orioles starter Kyle Bradish suffered a right foot contusion after he was drilled on a line drive by Rangers catcher Jonah Heim.
The Orioles pressed the pitcher they expected to start on Tuesday, Tyler Wells, into five innings of relief in that 2-0 victory. The O's then moved up former Rangers and Phillies starter Kyle Gibson into Wells' spot, leaving them needing a starter for Wednesday.
Rodriguez, who is from Houston, pitched his first Triple-A game of 2023 on Friday, where he allowed two earned runs in four innings.
