Outfielders Lead Texas Rangers Top 30 Prospect Rankings Shake-Up
The Texas Rangers top 30 prospect list underwent a shake-up when the new list was released by MLB.com.
Before the site’s re-rank, which took into account the first four months of the 2023 season, the draft and any in-season trades, outfielder Evan Carter was ranked No. 1 overall.
Well, Carter remained the organization’s top prospect, but another outfielder moved into the No. 2 spot — Wyatt Langford.
The recent first-round pick is at High Class-A Hickory and putting up impressive numbers early in his minor-league career.
Another prospect that saw a slight nudge in the rankings was shortstop Sebastian Walcott, who went from No. 5 to No. 3 as he plays his first professional season with the Arizona Complex League Rangers.
Pitcher Brock Porter, who is at Class-A Down East, dropped just one spot from No. 3 to No. 4, which isn’t representative of a lack of progress but more about the addition of Langford to the Top 30.
The Rangers’ top four prospects are among the Top 100 prospects in baseball.
Another pitcher, Jack Leiter, who was No. 4 in the previous rankings, dropped one spot to No. 5. He also dropped out of the Top 100 overall prospects.
The rest of the Top 10 includes infielder Justin Foscue at No. 6, followed by outfielder Anthony Gutierrez, pitcher Owen White, pitcher Kumar Rocker and outfielder Dustin Harris.
White recently made his Major League debut with the Rangers, while Rocker is out for the season after Tommy John surgery.
The next tier of prospects includes outfielder Aaron Zavala (11), outfielder Yeison Morrobel (12), infielder Cameron Cauley (13), first baseman Abimelec Ortiz (14), pitcher Josh Stephan (15), pitcher Aidan Curry (16), pitcher Mitch Bratt (17), third baseman Gleider Figuereo (18), pitcher Marc Church (19) and infielder Echedry Vargas (20).
The last tier of Top 30 prospects starting with No. 21 is infielder Jonathan Ornelas, pitcher Emiliano Teodo, pitcher Jose Corniell, outfielder Marcos Torres, catcher Jesus Lopez, pitcher Antoine Kelly, pitcher Winston Santos, pitcher Cole Winn, outfielder Alejandro Osuna and infielder Danyer Cueva.
