The Texas Rangers remain in something of a funk.

And the Houston Astros are breathing down their necks.

The Rangers' lead in American League West is down to two games after a 4-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox Wednesday at Fenway Park.

The Astros (49-38) beat the Colorado Rockies earlier Wednesday.

Texas (51-36) has lost eight of its past 12 games and hasn't won consecutive games since June 28.

Adolis Garcia, named the eighth and final contestant of the All-Star Game Home Run Derby Wednesday, hit his 22nd homer in the sixth inning. The opposite-field shot came with Corey Seager aboard.

That pulled the Rangers to within 3-2 but the Red Sox added an unearned run in the bottom of the inning when David Hamilton's double got past Garcia in right field.

Boston scored twice in the first inning on three singles and a walk against Jon Gray.

Justin Turner's single in the fifth scored Masataka Yoshida who led off with a double to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.

Gray allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks in six innings.

The teams finish the series at 6:10 p.m. Thursday before the Rangers start a three-game set against the Nationals in Washington to close out the season's first half.

Red Sox starter Brayan Bello held the Rangers to two runs on eight hits and no walks over seven innings. Bello improves to 6-5. Gray took the loss to drop to 6-5.
