Texas Rangers Update Corey Seager, Mitch Garver Injuries
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager and catcher Mitch Garver may need three more weeks before they’re ready to play, according to manager Bruce Bochy.
It’s not a firm timeline and Bochy didn’t have a full update on either’s progress from their respective injuries.
“I hate to put a number on it, but I think around three weeks,” Bochy said. “It could be a little sooner, could be more, so that’s a ballpark figure I can throw out there, I guess.”
Bochy said both are on a similar timeline.
Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered while legging out a double. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.
He resumed baseball activities with the team while in Cincinnati earlier this week, which consisted of light throwing and swinging a bat. Bochy said Seager isn’t taking the field until he can run.
Garver went on the injured list on April 10 after suffered a mid-left knee sprain. At the time, the hope was that Garver would be available after his 10-day stint on the injured list was over. But his recovery is taking longer than expected.
Seager and Garver are the only two Rangers on the 10- or 15-day injured list.
The Rangers hope to end the skid with ace Jacob deGrom (2-0, 3.04) for the second game. The Yankees (15-11) counter with Clarke Schmidt (0-2, 6.30) and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
