Corey Seager Update for Texas Rangers Homestand Opener

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager won't be in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves.

ARLINGTON, Texas – The return of Corey Seager is "imminent," but the star shortstop won't be in the Texas Rangers lineup for Monday night's homestand opener against the Atlanta Braves at Globe Life Field.

"Corey has done a great job on his rehab," general manager Chris Young said before the first game of the interleague series. "His return is imminent and won't be tonight, but we expect him back this week at some point. We'll know more later today or tomorrow."

The AL West-leading Rangers (25-15) are back home after a 7-3 road trip and that ended with Sunday's 11-3 victory at the Oakland Athletics.

Rookie starter Cody Bradford was called up to make his MLB debut against the Braves. Atlanta (25-15) is going with Charlie Morton (4-3, 3.32). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Seager could conceivably be activated as early as Tuesday, with the three-game set with Atlanta running through Wednesday. The Rangers host another interleague series against the Colorado Rockies from Friday-Sunday.

Seager played three rehab games in Double-A Frisco — two starts at shortstop and one at designated hitter. He finished 2-for-8 with a walk, a run and two RBI. He missed a chance at more at-bats Sunday as the game was rained out.

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained left hamstring. Seager suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

When he left the lineup he was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.
