Cody Bradford Making MLB Debut for Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are promoting one of their best pitchers from Triple-A Round Rock to make a start Monday against the Atlanta Braves.

Cody Bradford is expected to have contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock and make his Major League debut as the Texas Rangers’ starting pitcher against the Atlanta Braves on Monday.

The Rangers made the announcement via Twitter late Saturday night.

Bradford was the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April. He has a 5-1 record with a 0.91 ERA (four earned runs over 39 2/3 innings). He has a 0.86 WHIP and has a .156 opponent batting average. He’s walked 13 and struck out 37.

Bradford leads the Pacific Coast League in ERA, WHIP, opponent batting average, innings and wins (tied). He was also the PCL Pitcher of the Month.

He was supposed to take the ball for Round Rock on Sunday, but was scratched before the game.

The American League West-leading Rangers (25-15) also set their probable starting rotation for the entire Atlanta series. The Rangers will go with Dane Dunning on Tuesday and Nathan Eovaldi on Wednesday.

Atlanta (25-15) plans to start Charlie Morton (4-3, 3.32) in the opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Globe Life Field.

Bradford isn’t as highly-touted as some of the Rangers’ other pitching prospects. But the 25-year-old, Aledo, Texas product is the club's No. 26 prospect per MLB.com. Bradford was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training.

The Rangers took Bradford as their sixth-round pick in 2019 out of Baylor, where he was 12-11 in three seasons with a 3.86 ERA. He did not pitch for the Rangers in 2019 or 2020, the latter due to the COVIC-19 cancellation of minor league baseball.
