First Rehab Game for Texas Rangers Star Corey Seager

Corey Seager was assigned to the Texas Rangers' Double-A affiliate for the next step of his injury rehab.

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager made his first appearance with Double-A Frisco on Thursday as part of a rehab assignment for his injured hamstring.

The RoughRiders were hosting the Wichita Wind Surge, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Seager’s first appearance coincided with a start by Jack Leiter, one of the Rangers’ top pitching prospects.

The RoughRiders made a big deal out of Seager playing in Frisco, putting together a ticket special and documenting his first appearance in a RoughRiders uniform.

Seager hit in the second spot in the order, as he does for the Rangers. After failing to get a hit in his first at-bat against Carlos Luna, Seager doubled in two runs down the right-field line in the third inning, giving the RoughRiders a 2-0 lead.

Seager ended up going 1-for-3 with two RBI before he was removed from the game, which was the Rangers' plan.

The Rangers are at the Oakland Athletics for four games through Sunday. The Rangers haven’t said how long Seager’s rehab assignment will last, but the hope is he joins the club on the upcoming homestand. The Rangers host the Atlanta Braves for three games starting Monday. Seager is eligible to return whenever he’s ready.

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12. He suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

Before Seager was hurt, he was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.
