Texas Rangers Even Yankees Series, Jacob deGrom Exits Early Again

The Texas Rangers got one back against the New York Yankees on Friday evening, but Jacob deGrom's exit overshadowed the victory.

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers offense came alive on Friday night, powering a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees to even the series.

The Rangers (15-11) still sit atop the American League West and halted their four-game losing skid with the win at Globe Life Field.

However, the big news of the night was the early exit of Texas ace Jacob deGrom after just 3 2/3 innings pitched. deGrom allowed just one hit on the night — a single to Willie Calhoun in the fourth inning. Immediately after allowing the hit, Rangers medical and coaching staff visited the mound.

Just minutes later deGrom exited with forearm tightness. It's the second time in three starts that the righty has exited early with an injury.

Aside from deGrom's exit, it was a mostly positive night for Texas.

Second baseman Marcus Semien notched another double to make it 2-0 in the second inning as he continued his hot streak.

Designated hitter Robbie Grossman launched his third home run of the season, a 369-foot two-run shot to right field to make it 5-0 Rangers.

Following deGrom's exit, the Rangers bullpen stepped up. Dane Dunning pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief and allowed two earned runs.

Jonathan Hernández and Will Smith combined to finish out the final two innings with the latter earning the save. Dunning was credited with the win.

Texas looks to take a 2-1 series lead Saturday evening. Nathan Eovaldi (2-2, 5.20) starts against Yankees right-hander Jhony Brito (2-2, 6.11). Game time is 6:05 p.m.
