Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young went on local radio Monday and refuted a report that the club had contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates concerning outfielder Andrew McCutchen.

Young was making his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation.

"I saw there was a rumor out there today regarding an offensive player that literally we've had zero contact with that team so where that rumor came from, it really is amazing to me that those things get floated like that,” Young said.

Earlier on Monday, MLB.com reported that the Rangers had shown interest in acquiring McCutchen, but that the Pirates were not ready to deal yet. The report also indicated the Rangers would be more inclined to make the deal if a relief pitcher was involved.

McCutchen is slashing .271/.394/.431/.825 with nine home runs and 24 RBI going into this week.

He was the 2013 National League MVP. McCutchen is also a five-time All-Star, a four-time Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove winner.

He also has a connection to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. While McCutchen is most associated with the Pirates – the team he broke in with – he did play for Bochy with the San Francisco Giants in 2018.

The trade deadline is Aug. 1.
