Texas Rangers Activate Mitch Garver From Injured List

The Texas Rangers have back-up catcher Mitch Garver back after being out more than a month with a knee injury.
In this story:

The Texas Rangers activated catcher Mitch Garver on Friday, calling him up from Triple-A Round Rock after an injury rehab assignment that lasted more than a week.

To make room for Garver, the Rangers optioned outfielder Bubba Thompson to Triple-A.

Texas (35-20) opens a three-game series Friday night against the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field.

Garver did not play in the Express’ game on Thursday against Sugar Land. But he caught an entire game behind the plate Wednesday, something the Rangers considered to be the last hurdle before returning.

With the Express, Garver played in six games, splitting time between designated hitter and catcher. He batted .317 with two home runs and six RBI.

The first week of his rehab stint came in his hometown of Albuquerque.

Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. He was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury.

The Rangers traded for Garver, a former 30-home run hitter, before the 2022 season. He missed the majority of the campaign with a right flexor tendon injury, which required surgery.

Garver returned and ramped up well during Spring Training, getting back behind the plate and serving as a designated hitter, making the Opening Day roster.
