Oakland Athletics Release Images of Proposed Las Vegas Stadium
The Oakland Athletics released the first artist renderings of what their future baseball stadium could look like in Las Vegas.
The images for the proposed 30,000-seat venue were sent out in a press release by the Athletics. It would feature a partially retractable roof.
The Athletics would be the fourth team in the American League West with a retractable roof. The Texas Rangers, Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are all protected from the elements. The Los Angeles Angels do not have a roof.
Earlier in May, the Athletics reportedly into an agreement with Bally’s to build their new Las Vegas stadium on the site of the Tropicana, one of the Strip’s most iconic hotels.
That would put the new park on the southern side of the Strip, one of the busiest tourist areas in the country.
The move would also save money, a reported $105 million less in public funding than the deal the A’s made last month with Red Rock Resorts. The pair had a binding agreement, so it’s not clear how this reported deal with Bally’s impacts that deal.
That deal was for a 35,000-seat stadium down the street from Allegiant Stadium, which is the home of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders.
The deal with Red Rock required $500 million in public funding.
The Athletics hope to break ground next year and, assuming the Nevada Legislature approves, hope to be ready to play for the 2027 MLB season. On Friday, nbcsports.com reported that the A’s and the state of Nevada had reached a tentative deal on financing.
Assuming the Athletics follow through, Oakland would be without major professional sports. The Golden State Warriors moved to a new arena in San Francisco a few years ago.
