Texas Rangers Ace Jacob deGrom Makes Injury Recovery Progress

Jacob deGrom is starting to throw as the Texas Rangers continue their road trip at the Seattle Mariners.

Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom is doing some light toss work during the series at the Seattle Mariners. But that’s as far as the Rangers are willing to push him right now.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy provided a short update on deGrom’s status before Monday’s game with the Mariners.

“We’re going very easy with it and testing it out,” Bochy said.

Bochy also didn’t offer a timetable for deGrom’s return to the rotation. Bochy said Thursday that deGrom may need two more weeks before he’s ready to return to the field.

If that’s the case, then deGrom would not be ready to return when he’s eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on Sunday.

But light toss work is the next logical step in deGrom’s rehab from right elbow tightness. The Rangers indicated last week throwing could start on the road trip, so deGrom appears to be on schedule.

deGrom went on the injured list on April 29 after leaving his last start against the New York Yankees with right forearm tightness. That came two starts after deGrom left a game at the Kansas City Royals with a wrist issue.

The Rangers have been incredibly cautions with deGrom since signing him to a five-year, $185 million deal in the offseason.

Dane Dunning took deGrom’s first missed turn in the rotation on Friday.

The Dallas Morning News reported the deGrom update.
