Corey Seager Clears Major Hurdle for Texas Rangers Return
Corey Seager strained his hamstring legging out a double, knocking him out of the lineup.
A month later, the Texas Rangers star shortstop doubled in his first rehab assignment in the minor leagues.
Progress.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy wanted to see Seager run without limitation before returning to the club. The first outing should alleviate many of those concerns, as Seager started at shortstop and got in three at-bats before exiting after five innings Thursday night as previously planned.
He went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs on the double, along with two fly-outs.
Seager is expected to start at designated hitter Friday for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.
The Rangers are currently finishing up a 10-game road trip at the Oakland Athletics with games through Sunday. Should the accelerated rehab assignment continue to go well, Seager is in position to rejoin the club on the upcoming six-game homestand.
Texas plays host to the Atlanta Braves for three games starting Monday at Globe Life Field. The Colorado Rockies follow after a day off with another three-game series beginning Friday.
Seager, 29, has been out of the lineup and on the injured list since April 12. The last time he suffered a similar hamstring injury – with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019 – he missed about a month.
The current rehab is tracking along a similar timeline. Seager was hitting .359 with one home run and four RBI in 11 games before the injury.
