Could a former Texas Rangers ace be returning for the stretch run?

According to USA Today, the Rangers are interested in Chicago White Sox right-hander Lance Lynn.

Lynn was 22-14 with a 3.57 ERA over 36 starts in two seasons with the Rangers in 2019 and '20. Lynn led the league with 13 starts and 84 innings in the 2020 season which was shortened because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lynn, 36, has struggled this season with a bad White Sox team, going 5-8 with a 6.03 ERA.

But his outings have improved in June and July, including his last start on Thursday in which he held the Toronto Blue Jays scoreless on one hit and a walk over seven innings. He struck out 11 in the game, three starts after striking out a career-high 16 batters on June 18.

USA Today reports that the White Sox have held to a high asking price for Lynn, who is earning $18.5 million this season with an $18.5 million club option or $1 million buyout in 2024.

The Rangers starting rotation took a hit when Jacob deGrom went down because of ACL surgery. The rest of the rotation, including All-Star Nathan Eovaldi, has shown signs of fatigue as the team's ERA has gone from 3.43 at the end of April to 5.48 in July.

The trade deadline in Aug. 1.
