Texas Rangers Update on Corey Seager Rehab Assignment

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy updated the progress of shortstop Corey Seager from his hamstring injury.
In this story:

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager will “probably” start a rehab assignment this week in anticipation of his return to the lineup, manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday.

Earlier this week on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, Bochy said that the team would made a decision on Seager’s return after the Los Angeles Angels series concluded Sunday.

Bochy felt comfortable enough to say before Sunday's game that Seager would probably start that rehab assignment the upcoming series at the Seattle Mariners ends Wednesday. The Rangers start that series Monday.

“We’ll probably send him out on a rehab then if his progress continues the way it is,” Bochy said. “I could see that being a very strong possibility.”

Bochy did not say which affiliate Seager might join for the assignment. Both Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco are at home next week.

After the Rangers end their series with Seattle, they’ll play four games at the Oakland Athletics through May 14. Bochy did not say whether Seager might re-join the Rangers in Oakland if the rehab stint goes well.

The Rangers return home to host the Atlanta Braves on May 15. Seager has been participating in baseball activities for nearly two weeks, including defensive drills during the team’s last homestand.

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

Before Seager was hurt, he was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.

The Dallas Morning News reported the Seager update.
