Texas Rangers Update Timeline on Corey Seager Injury Return
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that shortstop Corey Seager is about 7-10 days away from returning to the field, per MLB.com.
This comes after Seager spent another day on Tuesday doing baseball work in the infield and outfield, including light toss work and fielding at his position. Bochy has been clear that he would not bring Seager back into the lineup until he was ready to run.
If Seager were to return in that timetable, that would put his return sometime during the upcoming 10-day, 10-game road trip that begins Friday at the Los Angeles Angels. Series at the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics follow.
If Seager is unable to return during the road trip, the Rangers would then likely target the only remaining homestand of the month, which starts May 15 against the Atlanta Braves.
Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered while legging out a double. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.
He resumed baseball activities with the team while at the Cincinnati Reds last month, which consisted of light throwing and swinging a bat.
The Rangers have primarily used Ezequiel Duran in Seager’s place a shortstop and his bat has thrived. Duran hit a two-run home run to give the Rangers the lead in their eventual 6-4 win Tuesday over the Arizona Diamondbacks. His batting average has improved by more than 150 points since the middle of April.
