Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager continues to work toward returning from his hamstring injury.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager keeps taking steps toward returning to the field as he took some ground balls at Globe Life Field on Saturday.

Seager started the session off with light toss work on the outfield grass in right before stepping over to his shortstop position to take some sharp ground balls. He didn’t make any throws either to first base or back to home plate, instead tossing the balls back to a member of the coaching staff nearby.

All of this work took place before the team came out for infield and batting practice.

On Friday, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy talked not only about Seager’s recovery but also that of catcher Mitch Garver. It appears both are on a similar timeline, but Bochy didn’t want to put a firm timeline on it.

“I hate to put a number on it, but I think around three weeks,” Bochy said. “It could be a little sooner, could be more, so that’s a ballpark figure I can throw out there, I guess.”

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered while legging out a double. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

He resumed baseball activities with the team while in Cincinnati earlier this week, which consisted of light throwing and swinging a bat. Bochy said Seager isn’t taking the field until he can run.

Seager and Garver are the only two Rangers on the 10- or 15-day injured list entering Saturday’s game with the New York Yankees.

Texas (15-11) looks to take a 2-1 series lead Saturday evening. Nathan Eovaldi (2-2, 5.20) starts against Yankees right-hander Jhony Brito (2-2, 6.11). Game time is 6:05 p.m.
