Red Sox Slugger 'Increasingly Likely' To Make Decision This Week; Is Reunion On Way?
One former member of the Boston Red Sox could land with a new team very soon.
Boston is looking to land a right-handed slugger to help out in the middle of the lineup, but a reunion with Justin Turner doesn't seem likely at this point. Turner opted out of his contract with the Red Sox and now is looking for his next opportunity.
Turner certainly has a big market and it sounds like he will be making his decision very soon. There even is a chance that Turner could decide on his next team this week, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
"Justin Turner’s free-agent decision is increasingly likely to occur this week," Morosi said. "Justin Turner’s market is helped by the fact that multiple large-market teams — (San Francisco Giants), (New York Mets), (Toronto Blue Jays), (Chicago Cubs) — are looking to add an impact corner infielder."
Turner is a two-time All-Star and 15-year big league veteran. Whichever team that lands him, is going to get a very solid hitter and add a respected voice to their clubhouse.
There have been rumblings that a reunion could be on the way, but Turner's market may be too large for Boston. The Red Sox have shown this offseason that they aren't willing to spend and with all of the competition for Turner, his price tag likely will be higher than Boston is willing to spend.
Free agency has been extremely slow this offseason, but things may start picking up this week and Turner's decision could be on the way.
