Marlins Reportedly 'Pushing Hard' For Trade For Surprise Yankees Star
Will the New York Yankees look different after the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline?
New York likely will look at least a little different but it is unclear exactly what the club's plans will be ahead of the trade deadline. The Yankees have been rumored to be buyers ahead of the trade deadline but the club will need to trade at least a few solid pieces to make a splash. One player that reportedly is drawing trade interest from the Miami Marlins reportedly is All-Star infielder Gleyber Torres, according to New Jersey Advance Media's Randy Miller.
"The Marlins were fixated on Gleyber Torres this time a year ago," Miller said. "They’re still trying to deal for the second baseman, NJ Advance Media learned from a source who is close to Marlins management.
"According to the source, the Marlins have been pushing hard for Torres, but the Yankees’ asking price has been too steep for their liking — two 25-year-old starting pitchers, right-hander Edward Cabrera and lefty Braxton Garrett, plus two prospects."
Torres has found his name in trade rumors at various points this season, although nothing has come to fruition. The 26-year-old is under team control until 2025 and could bring in a solid trade package. Torres has been solid this season for New York and is slashing .258/.323/.426 to go along with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 103 games. Miami seems to have a surplus of young starting pitching so maybe the Yankees could nab one in a deal centered around Torres.
It's unclear if the Yankees are interested in dealing Torres, but a move at least should be considered for the right price. New York needs a lift and has high-ranking middle infield prospects knocking on the big league door. If the Yankees can get a solid enough return, they should consider a move ahead of the August 1 trade deadline.
