What will the New York Yankees do ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline?

New York reportedly is leaning towards being buyers ahead of the trade deadline and the return of superstar slugger Aaron Judge only seems to make that possibility more likely. Although this is the case and New York has been linked to seemingly every star potentially available, The Athletic's Tim Britton predicts the Yankees' trade deadline moves won't be very large at all.

"Who’s the piece that solves the conundrum of this offense’s doldrums," Britton asked. "Besides the one, they’re welcoming back this weekend in Aaron Judge? This deadline is evolving as a particularly favorable market for sellers, and that’s even more true on the position player side. Cody Bellinger isn’t an ideal fit for a team already set in center field, and the Yankees won’t view Lane Thomas as worth the price. So they’ll add a rental platoon partner for Jake Bauers and/or Billy McKinney and see just how far Judge can take them."

New York entered the 2023 campaign with World Series aspirations and the season hasn't gone as planned. The Yankees have dealt with a wide-range of injuries this season but the club finally is starting to get healthy and realistically could gain ground in the standings and make a run for a postseason spot. New York has been tied to stars like Bellinger or St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Montgomery but it sounds like the club may opt for a quieter trade deadline.
