Yankees Place Jose Trevino on 10-Day IL
The Yankees will be without their starting catcher for at least the next 10 days.
On Thursday, the Yankees placed catcher Jose Trevino on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Trevino came out for a pinch-runner in the top of the 10th inning on Wednesday night, but that was not out of the norm. It's unclear when Trevino tweaked his hamstring.
Catcher Ben Rortvedt has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Trevino.
Rortvedt will make his Yankee debut for the first time since getting traded by the Minnesota Twins with Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa in March 2022.
With Trevino out, Kyle Higashioka is expected to handle the bulk of the catching duties. But Rortvedt should see time behind the plate as well.
Rortvedt underwent shoulder aneurysm surgery, which sidelined him for the beginning of the season.
Since returning to Triple-A Scranton, Rortvedt hit .324 with three home runs and a 1.026 OPS in 10 games.
Rortvedt was called up last season when Trevino went on the paternity list, but did not appear in any games.
