Yankees Reportedly Have Made Decision About Aaron Boone's Future With Club
The New York Yankees will be extremely busy this upcoming offseason but it doesn't sound like manager Aaron Boone is going anywhere.
Rumors have swirled throughout the second half of the season that big changes will be coming. Although the Yankees certainly will look different in 2024 and there likely will be some sizable changes, Boone reportedly will remain as the club's manager, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.
"The New York Yankees, who debated whether a managerial change was needed, now are expected to bring back manager Aaron Boone next season," Nightengale said. “That’s ultimately not my decision,’’ Boone told reporters. “So we’ll see.’’
Boone took over the Yankees ahead of the 2018 campaign and became the first manager in Major League Baseball history to win 100 or more games in each of his first two seasons. New York has underachieved this season but Boone shouldn't be at fault. The Yankees have turned things around recently but have dealt with a wide-range of injuries this season. While most teams have dealt with injuries, not many have been bitten by the injury bug as bad as New York.
The Yankees will be one of the most active teams in baseball this upcoming offseason and likely will add at least one or two starting pitchers. Boone is under contract through the 2024 campaign. New York should at least give him one more full season with an improved roster and hopefully better health. If the Yankees struggle next season a change could come to them, but it doesn't make sense to do so now.
