The Athletic Ranks The Cavaliers' Offseason As One Of The Best In NBA
The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the most active teams during the early stages of free agency back in June. They made a number of minor moves that they are hoping will have a major impact on the floor.
Max Strus, Georges Niang, Ty Jerome, Damian Jones, and Emoni Bates were all players the Cavs brought in. They also resigned Caris LeVert to a two-year deal. These moves were specifically made to help with Cleveland's three-point shooting and front-court depth.
None of these players carry the same magnitude as Chris Paul, Bradley Beal, or Kristaps Porzingis who were all on the move over the offseason, but Cleveland's gameplan did not go unnoticed by the national media.
The Athletic ranked the top 10 offseasons around the NBA and the Cavs cracked their list. David Aldridge rated Cleveland's offseason moves as the second-best in the league, right behind the San Antonio Spurs.
Aldridge complimented GM Koby Altman for his "quality" work recognizing the team's flaws and making the necessary moves to construct a stronger roster.
Yes, the Cavs addressed areas of need. But this doesn't mean it will be enough to become an Eastern Conference Finals contender. The team is still short at the center position, the need for a true wing is still there, and the defense could be questionable at times depending on who is on the floor at a time.
It will be interesting to see the different lineups J.B. Bickerstaff constructs in the preseason and into the early weeks of the regular season.
