The Cavs Can Clinch A Playoff Spot If This Happens
The Cleveland Cavaliers haven't been to the playoffs since they went to the Finals and lost to the Golden State Warriors in 2018. That team was slightly different than the one they have now with LeBron James leading the charge.
Although the team surprised a lot of fans and went to the play-in tournament in 2022, that doesn't count as full playoff series as they were just one-game showdowns. But the Cavs now find themselves in a position that would send them back to the playoffs and that could become official sooner than later.
Cleveland doesn't play on Saturday night, however, if the Nets lose to the Mimi Heat then the Cavs will then clinch a playoff spot. This counts as one of the top six seeds and the Cavs are guaranteed a best-of-seven series with whoever they are paired up with.
The Cavs are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference and have held that spot for the past few weeks. It looks like they could easily finish the season there with just seven games remaining.
It would be a huge advantage if that fourth seed is where Cleveland wrapped up the season at. Not only would they have a best-of-seven series, but they would also clinch home-court advantage in that series as well.
The Cavs own a 29-8 home record which is one of the best in the NBA. It would give this young team a little extra motivation and adrenaline to play in front of their home crowd for their first two home games as a unit.
Whether the Cavs clinch on Saturday night or sometime early next week, it certainly seems like it'll happen soon. When it does, it'll be great to have playoff basketball back in Cleveland!
