This Is What Hurt The Cavs The Most In Game 4 Loss To The Knicks

There was a lot that went wrong for the Cleveland Cavaliers in their 102-93 loss to the New York Knicks in Game 4. The Cavs lacked a sense of urgency earlier on in the game which found them down double digits, they struggled to hit open shots once again, and the Knicks continued their rebounding superiority.

However, there was one part of this game that specifically hurt the Cavs. That was with the number of turnovers they committed.

Cleveland gave the ball away 13 times in Game 4, which was actually lower than the 19 turnovers they had in Game 3. However, this is still way too many for a team looking to even up a series and prevent going down 3-1.

Donovan Mitchell committed six himself and Jarrett Allen gave it away twice. These came on weak passes or just simply not holding onto the ball tight enough allowing the Knicks to poke it away.

The Knicks actually committed more turnovers than the Cavs did, but this is where the problem really comes in. The Knicks were still able to get more points off turnovers than the Cavs even with giving it away more.

The biggest issue with giving away the ball this much is what it does to the momentum of the game.

This hostility of the Madison Square Garden crowd has been a major talking point in this series. So much so that Mitchell Robinson even said after Game 3 that the Cavs were rattled by them.

One way the crowd gets into the game is by watching their team take the ball away on defense and score in transition. The Knicks did a lot of this in Game 4 and the home crowd fed right into it.

The Cavs need to take care of the ball better when they return home if they want to extend this series and force a Game 6.
