Two Cavaliers Selected To 2024 USA Men’s National Team Player Pool
The Cleveland Cavaliers have a pair of players who have both been playing at an NBA All-Star caliber level this season.
This has now officially been noticed at a national level.
On Tuesday, USA Basketball announced its player pool for the 2024 USA Men’s Basketball National Team ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Among the 41 players selected were two members of the Wine and Gold: Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen.
Mitchell has once again been one of the premier two-way guards in the NBA this season. Offensively, he is averaging 27.8 points per game, which ranks sixth in the league. The four-time reigning All-Star also ranks third in the NBA with a career-best 2.0 steals per contest.
He is also averaging career-bests in rebounds (5.4), assists (6.1), and blocks (0.4, tied) per game, while shooting a career-best 88.3% from the free throw line.
Allen has been one of the most dominant and efficient big men in the NBA this season. He is averaging 14.8 points, 10.3 rebounds per game, and 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting 66.9% from the field, which ranks third in the league. The 2022 All-Star is also averaging a career-best 3.0 assists and 0.9 steals per contest.
He has also tied Cleveland’s franchise record with 12 consecutive double-doubles in the team’s last 12 games.
Both players have represented their country in tournament play, but never in the Olympics.
Mitchell, who has expressed desire to play in this year’s Summer Olympics in Paris, played for Team USA’s seventh-place team in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Allen, on the other hand, played for Team USA’s gold medal-winning team in the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
The team’s official 12-man roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics will be announced later this year.
