Celtics Center Ruled Out for Monday's Game vs. Wizards
After a 119-111 victory over the Miami Heat in their home opener, the Boston Celtics are back on the road. They visit the nation's capital for a showdown against the Washington Wizards.
The hosts of Monday night's matchup are 1-1 after earning a 113-106 win vs. Marcus Smart and the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.
Boston, 2-0, with its other victory, a 108-104 win at Madison Square Garden in its regular-season opener against the New York Knicks, has enjoyed a clean bill of health to start the 2023-24 campaign.
It appeared that trend would continue when their initial injury report came out on Sunday. However, Neemias Queta is no longer available for Monday's game in D.C. due to right foot soreness.
The seven-foot-center generated 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game in the preseason while showcasing his impressive blend of size, strength, and athleticism. He also displayed his impact as a screener, including on dribble handoffs.
Queta, the first player to reach the NBA from Portugal, is on a two-way deal and has made a positive impression on his new team, including head coach Joe Mazzulla conveying the following about him in a conversation with Inside The Celtics.
"He's done everything we've asked him to do, and he's come in every day, and he's worked. And I really like how he's gotten better and better each time he's been on the floor. So, we're excited that we have an opportunity to develop him."
Hopefully, he quickly returns to the court so he can continue to grow his game. Based on the nature of his ailment, one would think that proves to be the case.
