Celtics Reportedly Attend Former All-Star Point Guard's Private Workout
After signing Jordan Walsh, utilizing the second-round exception, the Celtics have one open roster spot.
They could create another vacancy by waiving Justin Champagnie or Luke Kornet, who are on non-guaranteed contracts. That would also carve out additional cap space for a team that's $3.4 million under the second apron, per Spotrac.
In search of another ball handler and also wanting to do its due diligence as it builds out its roster, Boston reportedly attended John Wall's private workout in Las Vegas on Sunday, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic.
After not playing in 2021-22 and missing the 2019-20 campaign due to a ruptured Achilles, the five-time All-Star appeared in 34 games with the Clippers last season, averaging 11.4 points, 5.2 assists, nearly three rebounds, and almost a steal per contest.
While that's encouraging for what the former Kentucky Wildcat might be able to contribute this season, The Celtics recently signed six-foot-nine point guard Dalano Banton, adding him to a depth chart that includes Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon, and Payton Pritchard.
Perhaps if they trade one of the latter two, especially without acquiring another ball handler, being on-hand for Wall's workout goes from due diligence to offering him a contract.
The former All-NBA point guard turns 33 in September.
