During the Boston Celtics’ media day, Jaylen Brown spoke about his impact on defense. The Celtics wing expressed that he is challenging himself to become one of the best defenders in the world.

“Personally, for me, I think that at different points in my career, I’ve been able to display my defensive ability, but not enough. I think that when I’m dialed in… I could be one of the better defenders in the world, and that’s something I’m challenging myself with.”

For the 2022-2023 regular season, the Celtics finished with the third-best defensive rating in the NBA. Derrick White was Boston’s defensive standout, as the 29-year-old guard was the only Celtic to earn an NBA All-Defensive First Team selection.

Although Brown has yet to earn an All-Defensive team selection, the 26-year-old continues to show signs of significant growth. Last season, Brown averaged a career-high 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Boston's probable starting lineup for the 2023-2024 season will include Brown, White, Jayson Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday.
