The LA Clippers lost against the New Orleans Pelicans in what was the most important game of their season. It was tremendously disappointing on multiple layers, and the team was upset at a multitude of things - including the free throws.

After the game, LA Times writer Andrew Greif reported that the Clippers weren't happy with the Pelicans shooting 15 free throws in the second quarter of the game that ultimately ruined the Clippers' 10-point lead. Kawhi Leonard rarely voices his displeasure with the referees, but even he had something to say about it.

"Just trying to guard without fouling," Leonard said. "That was the answer tonight. Just ticky-tack fouls, those weren’t shooting fouls, really."

The New Orleans Pelicans ultimately made 31/35 free throws and the Clippers made 19/23 free throws. It ended up being the difference in a very close game that the Pelicans won by eight points, and both teams only had a single difference in shot attempts. It wasn't the only reason why the Clippers lost to the Pelicans, as LA just hasn't been able to defend this team for years. The Clippers have now lost 9 of the last 10 games against the Pelicans, even when their season has been on the line.

Now, the Clippers no longer control their destiny when it comes to making it out of the play-in. They're going to need to hope that the New Orleans Pelicans lose a game during this final week of the season.
