Russell Westbrook has been unfairly treated by the media for quite some time now. This unfair treatment became heightened during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, and continued once he signed with the LA Clippers.

With reporters going on television and slandering not only Westbrook's play on the basketball court, but his character off the court, the veteran point guard was portrayed as something that he simply is not. While most analysts will refuse to apologize for their unfair and inaccurate assessment of Westbrook, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins recently went on television and issued an apology from himself.

"I see Russ, a guy that is on a mission right now," Perkins said. "Revenge to go out there and harm and inflict pain on people that have done it to him, including myself. So, I see a guy that's playing with passion, I see a guy that has something to prove, I see a guy that is on a mission, and I think we the media - myself, we owe Russell Westbrook an apology... He is proving the world wrong right now."

There are other media members, particularly ESPN media members, that should also do what Perkins just did. Critiquing a player's performance on the court is one thing, but slandering their character to a national audience is something that is unacceptable and should never happen. It is especially unacceptable when it happens to a player like Russell Westbrook, who has countless former and current teammates who call him the best teammate they have ever had.
