NBA Coach Slams Lakers for Usage of Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook's time with the Los Angeles Lakers did not go how either side hoped it would, as the former league MVP was ultimately traded to the Utah Jazz before being bought out and signed by the LA Clippers.
In a recent report from Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, one Western Conference assistant coach slammed the Lakers for their usage of Westbrook, discussing why the fit has been so much better with the Clippers
"They are letting Russ be Russ, that is something a lot of us have been saying for a while," the Western Conference assistant coach told Deveney. "The Lakers brought him in and tried to make him a different player, tried to force him to be something he is not. And that led to a lot of the problems they had with each other. But the Lakers left him hung out to dry there."
Westbrook is set to face his former team on Wednesday night for the first time since being traded. The Clippers and Lakers enter this game tied in the Western Conference standings, as the winner of this game will have a much easier path to a top-six finish, while the loser will be at risk of finishing in the play-in tournament.
Westbrook's play has been solid with the Clippers, and one Western Conference assistant coach believes the team is doing a better job of utilizing him than the Lakers did.
