Having played his college ball in Memphis, Derrick Rose signing with the Memphis Grizzlies this summer has been somewhat of a homecoming for the veteran point guard. Sharing a heartfelt reaction to his first preseason game with the Grizzlies, Rose said, “It's still unreal. Like it still didn't hit me yet... I’m very blessed, I’m very grateful to be here.”

The Grizzlies picked up a 127-122 win over the Indiana Pacers in their preseason opener, and Rose finished with 13 points in 13 minutes. Shooting a very efficient 6/8 from the field, Rose looked solid in his Grizzlies debut. With Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games, the Grizzlies will need Rose to play some key point guard minutes.

While many have spoken on the veteran leadership Rose will bring this Grizzlies team, he has a real opportunity to make a difference on the court as well. The former league MVP still has the ability to play a role on a team like Memphis, especially with available point guard minutes in the absence of Morant. If Rose’s first preseason game is any indication, he definitely still has the ability to play impactful basketball.

The Grizzlies got their preseason started the right way, and will look to build off this as they get ready for the regular season to begin at the end of this month.
