Details of Ja Morant's Countersuit Revealed
Damichael Cole of Memphis Commercial Appeal reported on Thursday that Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant had filed a countersuit against the 17-year-old teenager he punched last summer. In the report, Cole wrote, "Morant's All-NBA status is also mentioned. If Morant isn't one of six guards named to the All-NBA team, he could miss out on more than $39 million on the contract extension he signed this past offseason. The countersuit also notes how Morant's relationship with future sponsors could be impacted."
Cole also added a portion of the filings that read, "Before Counter-Defendant lied and before he or someone else leaked his lies to the media, Mr. Morant was a strong prospect for one of six All-NBA guard spots. That selection would be personally significant for Morant because it would trigger a 'super max' clause in his contract extension worth millions of dollars."
There has been a lot of discussion surrounding Morant's actions over the last year, including his eight-game suspension from the NBA for flashing a gun during an Instagram live video. While Morant has undoubtedly made mistakes, this particular incident with the teenager is one he feels has been untruthfully reported, which is why he has filed a countersuit.
This will be an interesting situation to follow, as Morant believes the teenager lied, which led to an inaccurate story leaking in the media.
