Injury Report: Key Player Ruled OUT for Grizzlies vs. Lakers Game 6
After initially being listed as questionable, Memphis Grizzlies guard Luke Kennard has been ruled out for Friday night's Game 6 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Kennard injured his shoulder fighting through a screen from LeBron James, and is now unable to play. This is a massive blow for Memphis, as Kennard has been one of their most impactful players this series.
Leading the Grizzlies in plus/minus this series, Kennard's shooting and overall gravity have been vital. While his numbers don't jump off the page, his impact has been undeniable, especially when paired paired with Ja Morant. With the Lakers leaving Dillon Brooks open, they have been able to use his defender as additional help when Morant drives. When Kennard plays alongside Morant, this is something the Lakers cannot do, as a defender must stay glued to him at all times.
The NBA's leader in three-point percentage the last two seasons, Kennard was a steal for the Grizzlies at this year's trade deadline. Providing an element the team had been missing all season, Kennard unlocked a new level for the Grizzlies, and that was showing in the playoffs as well.
If the Grizzlies can win Game 6 without Kennard, it would send this series back to Memphis for Game 7. The additional rest could give Kennard an opportunity to return; however, him being unable to play in Game 6 indicates that his shoulder is in some serious pain.
