Joel Embiid Takes Jab At Grizzlies Scorekeeper
Earlier this season, there were some who believed that the Memphis Grizzlies scorekeeper was inflating Jaren Jackson Jr.'s defensive stats. There were entire film breakdowns from fans who believed Jackson was being credited with blocks and steals that should not have actually gone to him, but the claims were mostly false, as the majority of the clips in question were confirmed to be accurately ruled. Despite this, that narrative has still persisted to some extent.
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid recently took a jab at the Grizzlies scorekeeper when reading his stat sheet. Looking down and seeing he only was credited with three blocks on the game, Embiid joked and said he needs the Grizzlies scorekeeper. It was a lighthearted jab from Embiid, who believes he should have been credited with more than three blocks last game.
Despite the speculation that Jaren Jackson Jr. was having his defensive stats boosted, the Grizzlies big man won the Defensive Player of the Year Award. A much deserved honor for the defensive anchor of this Memphis group, Jackson was rewarded for his stellar defense all season long. As previously mentioned, the claims that his stats were being inflated were never proven to be legitimate, and the Grizzlies big man ultimately took home the league’s most prestigious defense honor.
More importantly than any individual accolades, the Grizzlies are focused on winning this first round playoff series against the Lakers, and will need Jackson to continue playing well.
