Memphis Grizzles Player Joins LeBron James on Shocking List
The Memphis Grizzlies fell to the New York Knicks on Saturday night, but they got a very impressive showing from rookie forward GG Jackson. Playing a career-high 27 minutes, Jackson finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds, a 1 assist on 9/14 from the field and 2/4 from deep.
With this performance, Jackson became the second youngest player in NBA history with at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 made threes in a game. The youngest to achieve this feat is Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who did it four times before turning Jackson's current age of 19 years and 27 days old (data via Basketball Reference's StatHead, h/t @StatsSAC on X).
While the Grizzlies have been decimated by injuries this season, the absence of so many rotation players has opened up this opportunity for Jackson. This is one of the few silver linings for Memphis this season, as young players like Jackson are getting opportunities to develop at the NBA level. Already showing some serious ability, Jackson turned in a very impressive performance vs. the Knicks.
The Grizzlies lost this game to New York, but unless something unexpected happens, the rest of this season will be much more about the development of players like Jackson than it will be about wins and losses. This is not at all what Memphis expected entering the season, but injuries have placed them in this position.
