Memphis Grizzlies Announce Signing of Former Lakers Player
The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Tuesday afternoon that the team had signed former Los Angeles Lakers guard Scotty Pippen Jr. to a two-way contract. In their announcement, the team wrote the following:
"The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team signed guard Scotty Pippen Jr. to a two-way contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Pippen Jr. (6-1, 170) has appeared in 17 games (15 starts) for the South Bay Lakers during the 2023-24 NBA G League Showcase and regular season and has averaged 20.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.2 steals in 30.3 minutes. The 23-year-old was selected to participate in the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars Game as part of NBA All-Star Weekend while with South Bay last season. Unselected in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Portland, Oregon native made six appearances for the Los Angeles Lakers last season and averaged 2.3 points in 5.3 minutes. He played three seasons collegiately at Vanderbilt (2019-22), where he was named All-SEC First Team following his sophomore and junior years."
The Grizzlies have been decimated by injuries this season, and recently converted Vince Wlliams Jr. into a standard contact, which opened up the two-way spot for Pippen. The one silver lining of how this season has gone for Memphis, is the increased opportunities there now are for young players like Pippen to get a look at the NBA level.
