NBA players are very motivated individuals. Often self motivated, players still look for any outside motivation they can use to drive them. For Memphis Grizzlies star Desmond Bane, he is motivated by the teams that passed on him in the NBA Draft, especially the Dallas Mavericks.

Per Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian, Bane said after Tuesday night's win over the Mavericks, "They were supposed to take me. You know that. The PA guy came up and apologized. He said he thinks about it every day... That’s exactly what I want them to be thinking about."

Bane went 30th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, so he was passed on by every team that had a first round pick that year, but as he remembers, it was Dallas who was supposed to take him.

The Mavericks had the 18th overall pick in that draft, and selected Josh Green. Still with Dallas, Green is a decent role player, but has never averaged double digit scoring. With Bane becoming a star-level guard, currently averaging 24.7 PPG, it's clear he should have gone much higher in that draft than he did.

For Memphis, they are thrilled that Bane landed with them. The young guard has proven to not only be a star-level player on the court, but a great team and community leader off the court as well.
