NBA Legend Makes Controversial Luka Doncic Statement
Every season, it feels like Luka Doncic's name is mentioned in the MVP conversation. However, every season it feels like Luka's teams never crack the top 4 seeds in the Western Conference.
Because of that, one former NBA Star and Grizzlies player believes Luka shouldn't be considered in MVP conversations.
In an episode of Gil's Arena, Gilbert Arenas absolutely blasted the idea of Luka Doncic being in the MVP conversation. For Arenas, winning should be rewarded and not just starts, and Luka's teams haven't been elite enough to be considered.
"For us to sit here and say 'should he win it' there's a bunch of people in history, Wilt Chamberlain, who was doing stuff like this," Arenas said. "The fact that we're gonna consider it now, no thank you. When Kobe was doing what Kobe was doing, he didn't win MVP. When you look at Wilt Chamberlain's stats and how many he has versus the stats he has, then no. I don't even want to even consider having this conversation about Luka and if winning wasn't involved. If winning wasn't involved, the MVPs would look different across the board."
For a man as typically controversial as Gilbert Arenas is, his rationale behind his Luka take actually makes sense. Very seldom does a player win MVP without being a top team in the league, with one of the only rare occasions being Russell Westbrook. There are too many good players on good teams to consider Luka Doncic over a Nikola Jokic.
