Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley recently weighed in on the Ja Morant situation during an episode of his podcast. Morant is of course being investigated by the NBA after flashing a gun during an Instagram live video, which is something Beverley said should not happen.

"I've never grown up with my father," Beverley said. "It's almost like an envy thing. I see this man's dad at every game... That little shit that you can control. Little guns, little fights, that shit shouldn't happen, man. So it's not only Ja, I challenge everybody in the situation to do better. For real, because Ja is the face of the new culture. In a lot of ways we need Ja."

On why the NBA needs Morant, Beverley said, "A lot of ways, the NBA needs Ja. I got a video, my son scored his first basket he's ever scored... The first thing he did was the griddy. The first thing. I've never done the griddy. Ever. So my son shoots the ball, first thing he does is griddy. I'm talking about full-court griddy... That shows you [Morant] is taking this new generation by storm."

Beverley's take was nuanced and honest, which is the correct approach to this situation. He knows the NBA is better when Ja Morant is playing, which is why he wants to see the star guard make better decisions.
