Star Player Makes NBA History in Grizzlies vs. Raptors Game
Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and showed exactly why in the first quarter of Monday night's game vs. the Toronto Raptors. Finishing the first quarter with six steals, Jackson became just the 8th player to record that many steals in a quarter since the NBA began tracking such data.
Additionally, with 16 points to go along with his six steals, Jackson became the only player to record that many points and steals in a quarter since the NBA began tracking such data (per Basketball Reference's StatHead).
It was a very impressive defensive showing from Jackson to start this game, who was making things very difficulty on the Raptors. Memphis has relied heavily on Jackson since Ja Morant was sidelined for the season, and even more so since Desmond Bane went down as well. While Jackson has had his ups and downs offensively, his defense is there on a nightly basis, which gives the Grizzlies a chance to be competitive even without so many key players.
While Memphis has a very small chance at making the playoffs, this team has certainly not given up all hope. Still coming out and competing hard every game, the Grizzlies have remained motivated even despite all of their misfortunate this season. For Jackson, this is an opportunity to step up even more.
