Star Player Suffers Injury in LA Clippers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Game
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to be the unluckiest team in the NBA this season. Already without Ja Morant for the rest of the season, the Grizzlies continue to lose more key players. In the third quarter of Friday night's game against the LA Clippers, Grizzlies star Desmond Bane stepped on the foot of Kawhi Leonard while driving to the basket, turning his ankle.
Bane went straight to the locker room after turning his ankle, not shooting his free throws. Not taking the free throws officially ended Bane's night, as a player who is unable to shoot free throws is not allowed to return.
Entering this game, the Grizzlies were already without Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, Steven Adams, Santi Aldama, Brandon Clarke, and Derrick Rose. With all of these players out, Bane is the Grizzlies' best player, and now he is sidelined as well. While ankle turns can vary in how long they keep players out, Bane will almost certainly be forced to miss some time.
Clearly in pain, Bane knew he would not be able to stay in the game, untucking his jersey and heading straight to the locker room after stepping on Leonard's foot. It has just been one of those years for the Grizzlies, as everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, and to a significant degree each time.
